Smarter Search initially approached us requesting a custom WordPress plugin capable of scanning any WordPress website to check its installed version and active plugins versions.

Given the simplicity of the required functionality, we recommended stepping away from WordPress entirely and building them a lightweight custom website instead. This eliminated the unnecessary overhead that comes with WordPress, resulting in a significantly faster-loading site that remained just as easy to manage and update.

During the project, they also expressed an interest in email marketing, so we set them up with our pay-as-you-go mailing list software, powered by Amazon Simple Email Service (SES). This proved to be a cost-effective solution — saving them over 60% compared to their previous MailChimp subscription.

Working Example

Here is a live example of a search for one of our websites www.GBDetail.co.uk in the results you will see that WooCommerce is running one version out of date which is not critical and there are two plugins which are not in the WordPRess API which is what we use to check current version numbers.

Fusion Builder is the CMS plugin associated with the theme on the website and Ws Card Game is a custom plugin of our own design which is also not in the WordPRess list of official plugins so versioning can not be checked for this plugin either.

These check are used as a guide line only, the only true way of checking if your plugins are upto date is via the updates tab in your WordPress Dasgboard.

If you think your website's plugins are out of date you should always check with your website designer and ask for their update schedule as everybody rund different schedules.
